Our values

We are a workers’ co-operative!

Co-operatives are organisations that are owned and run by their members. We operate a totally non-hierarchical structure amongst our membership, with no managers. As a worker co-op all our full-time workers are members (currently 6 of us): we pay ourselves and our staff the real living wage, and any profits are put back into the co-op and the community.

A co-op can take many forms, but for us it’s about creating an equitable, compassionate, inclusive workplace that allows the needs of the workers and community to be put first.

What do we do?

We specialise in selling a wide range of unpackaged foods including beans, pulses, dried fruits and herbs and spices by weight. Most of our stock is vegan, with the exception of carefully chosen dairy milk, cheese, eggs, honey, and a few products which contain honey. Our nut butter grinding machines are one of our unique features, as is our extremely popular (and messy) range of refillable cleaning products.

All of the fruit and veg we sell is grown pesticide-free, and the vast majority is certified organic. Our veg is never air-frieghted, and the only fresh produce we sell from outside of Europe is turmeric, ginger,  and bananas (because of their health-giving properties or role as a staple food).

The ethical principles we prioritise most highly:

  • Reduced disposable packaging (see our Zero Waste page for info)
  • Promoting organics
  • Locally grown products – reducing food-miles and supporting the local economy
  • Locally made products -supporting the local economy and small producers
  • Affordable, good quality staple goods
